The Town Assessor’s duties and responsibilities are determined by the New York State Real Property Tax Law and include: Preparation of the annual assessment role; administration of the complaint (grievance)/tax certiorari procedure; administration of exemptions; administration of the STAR program; and management of the continuous town-wide revaluation effort.
The Town Clerk is the: Receiver of Taxes (Town, county, special assessment, school); licensing officer for the sale of licenses and permits (e.g., dog, marriage, conservation, games of chance, bingo); Sub-Registrar of Vital Statistics for producing burial permits and for cemetery sales; Coordinator with the Monroe County Board of Elections to prepare election districts and provide election inspectors for general and primary elections in Irondequoit; and Records Management Officer for the retention and disposition of all Town documents including the proceedings of the Town Board.
The Department of Community Development is responsible for ensuring compliance with state and local ordinances regarding building construction, fire prevention, property maintenance, land use planning, and zoning.
While the Town Supervisor is designated as the Chief Fiscal Officer under New York State town law, the Comptroller is directly responsible for daily financial operations such as accounting, auditing and approving claims for payment; preparing periodic financial reports; preparing for the financing of capital improvements through debt issues; administering the New York State Environmental Facilities Corporation loan program for consolidated sewer district capital improvements; administering the federal Community Development Block Grant; investing idle funds; preparing annual budgets; and overseeing the annual audit at the end of each fiscal year.
The Irondequoit Town Court has criminal jurisdiction over all misdemeanors, violations, and infractions together with arraignment and preliminary jurisdiction over felonies. Jury trials are conducted where required.
Human Resources is responsible for all personnel functions, which includes employment, compensation and benefits, payroll, staff development, employee relations, labor relations, contract administration and negotiation, etc. Human Resources is the liaison with Monroe County Civil Service in matters concerning civil service law, procedures, job descriptions, and classifications. The department is responsible for the development and administration of Human Resource policies and procedures and for ensuring compliance with applicable state and federal labor laws.

We use Spectrum (formerly Time Warner Cable) channel 1303 for Government programming, including programs from Irondequoit, Monroe County, New York and federal government and lawmakers. Channel 1301 features programming from our schools in Irondequoit along with Community Access Programs.
The Irondequoit Public Library is dedicated to enriching the quality of life in the Town by providing quality customer services and life-long learning opportunities. The excellent collections of books and materials in other formats are focused to meet the informational, educational, and recreational needs and interests of Irondequoit residents. The library emphasizes and promotes the importance of books and reading, while actively and appropriately using information technology to provide customers with rapid, equitable access to knowledge. The library is one of the busiest public libraries in Monroe County and an active member of the Monroe County Library System.
This division of the Community Development Department is responsible for Town planning, review of site development plans for land use applications, and environmental conservation efforts. This includes staff support to the Zoning Board of Appeals, Planning Board, Conservation Board, and Town Board in carrying out the land use planning and zoning functions of the Town. The staff provides liaison and coordination with other Town departments and with county, state, and federal agencies; maintains and assists in periodic updates of the Town Master Plan and official Zoning Map; and prepares and maintains records of Planning and Zoning proceedings and decisions.
The Irondequoit Police Department is the second largest town police force in Monroe County, New York. The officers of the Department protect and preserve the rights of the citizens and property owners of the town. The Department provides these services through the Road Patrol, Community Services Unit, and the Investigative Services Section, all with the support of civilian staff. The officers of the Department provide proactive enforcement of all of the laws of New York State, the Town of Irondequoit, Monroe County and the United States. The Irondequoit Police Department is accredited by the New York State Department of Criminal Justice Services, Office of Public Safety.
The Department of Public Works is responsible for maintaining Irondequoit’s public infrastructure - including residential streets, sidewalks, trees located in the right of way, stormwater conveyance system, sanitary sewer systems, and parks.
The department is committed to a high level of service and maintenance to all public infrastructure in the Town.
Irondequoit Recreation is responsible for recreation programs, the Senior / Community Center and the Senior Nutrition Program. The Recreation Department also administers a variety of special events throughout the year and is responsible for the Town Historian.
