On June 12th, 2020, Governor Andrew Cuomo signed Executive Order 203, establishing the New York State Police Reform and Reinvention Collaborative. This order mandated that every government unit in New York State with a police department must develop a plan to improve the deployment, strategies, policies, procedures and practices of law enforcement within their community.
The Town of Irondequoit and the Irondequoit Police Department welcome this charge, as we are committed to addressing the needs of all members of our community served by our police, as well as working to establish trust, fairness and accountability in our efforts to ensure there is equity in the administration of law enforcement.
On February 16th, 2021, the Irondequoit Town Board received the draft plan, created after months of community engagement and dialogue. A public hearing was held at the Irondequoit Town Board meeting on March 16th, 2021. Where the Town Board received formal comment on the plan. At the March 30th, 2021 Special Town Board Meeting, the Irondequoit Town Board officially voted on and adopted the plan.
