Guidelines on Outdoor Dining in Phase II

Date Posted: August 21, 2020

On June 3rd, Governor Cuomo announced that outdoor dining will now be permitted in Phase II of reopening New York from the NY PAUSE coronavirus shutdown.

The Governor’s office has provided guidelines for businesses wishing to provide outdoor dining and we encourage all Irondequoit food and drink establishments to review. Most importantly, businesses must assure that patrons at separate tables can remain outside of six feet from one another.

Many food and drink establishments in Irondequoit are already permitted to provide outdoor dining, having gone through the appropriate approval process from the Town Board, Zoning Board and/or Planning Board.

However, in an effort to allow all restaurants to begin serving patrons for on-premises dining, the Town has created a temporary special permit for establishments looking to either create new outdoor dining space, or, expand their existing outdoor dining space.

The temporary permit application may be found here. This permit will be issued with by the Department of Development, which stands ready to provide technical assistance. We encourage you to contact either Kerry Ivers, Director of Development (336-6022 / or the Fire Marshal (336-6770 /

Please note: if you already have permitted outdoor dining and do not wish to expand the footprint, you DO NOT need further Town approval.

In addition to the temporary Town permit, any SLA licensee that expands its premises for outdoor seating must, within 5 business days of doing so, submit an updated diagram to the SLA at - please include your license serial number in the subject line.
