Irondequoit Supervisor Dave Seeley announced the start of the Town’s 32nd annual Oktoberfest celebration. The festival will be held on two consecutive weekends in the big tent at Camp Eastman on Lakeshore Boulevard in Irondequoit.
“Irondequoit certainly has earned the distinction of being our region’s ‘Festival Town,’ and our annual Oktoberfest- one of the largest in the Northeastern United States - serves as an appropriate end to summer,” said Supervisor Seeley. “This year’s celebration of German music, food and culture promises to be a wonderful time for guests of all ages.”
This year’s musical entertainment includes The Frankfurters, Schutzengiggles and the ever-popular, Master Yodeler Richard Brandl. In addition to the now-annual Stein Hoist contest, which will be held on Saturday, September 14th, the festival will also feature a “Don Your Dirndl” competition, paying homage to the traditional Oktoberfest dress.
Kinderfest, featuring free activities for kids, will be held on both Saturdays, September 7th and 14th, from 2pm to 7pm. Kids under 16 get in free with paid adult admission during the hours of Kinderfest. Adults who come to Kinderfest with children will receive a stamp that is good for re-entry later in the day if they choose to come back.
Admission to the festival is $10 at the gate. Children under 12 are free when accompanied by an adult. For those arriving after 8pm, admission is only $8. Pre-sale tickets are available by contacting Irondequoit Recreation at 585-336-6070.
