
Irondequoit Special Police
The Special Police augment the Irondequoit Police Department resources. Especially during events or in situations that tend to overburden the I.P.D.'s normal operations.
The Special Police Volunteers are accountable to an on-duty I.P.D. supervisor when at an event, and abide by all I.P.D. rules and regulations.

Duties & Responsibilities:
Traffic Control: Traffic direction is a major function of this unit. Officers direct traffic at scheduled events, parades and festivals.
Crowd Control: Officers routinely provide security at parades, festivals, concerts and other events within the Town of Irondequoit.
Cime Prevention: The unit assists the I.P.D. with crime prevention activities, including child finger printing and safety awareness programs.
Training: The Special Police meet once a month with I.P.D. staff for training/updates. All Special Police are required to attend Special Police Training Class, at the Public Safety Training Center.
