Lighthouse Pointe Waterfront Development ProposalLighthouse Point Property Associates, LLC has proposed to develop environmentally sensitive land along the Genesee River, adjacent to the O'Rourke Bridge. The $250 million project would include condominiums, townhouses, restaurants and a promenade along the river bank. The Town of Irondequoit has offered its support to the development team, well aware that this proposal could very well represent the most significant waterfront project in the Town's history. In December, 2007 the Town and Lighthouse Pointe came to a pre-development agreement. This allowed release of $250,000 State grant that will be used to garner a better understanding of the environmental and geo-technical condition of the land; and also, to conduct a economic feasibility study of the site. On December 20, 2007, State Supreme Court Justice Anne Marie Taddeo issued a decision directing that the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation admit the 47 acre site, which sits on what used to be a City of Rochester dump, into the State Brownfield Cleanup Program. Admission into this program will allow this project to move forward with necessary environmental contamination remediation.
