Citizen’s Police Academy

Advanced Citizens Police Academy:
January 2 – February 13 (for graduates of regular CPA only)

Regular Citizens Police Academy:
February 27 to May 7

All classes Wednesday evenings, 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.,
at the Town Court building.  
 

The Irondequoit Police Department’s Citizen’s Police Academy is a ten-week program which provides participants with a clear understanding of the role, function, and responsibilities of a law enforcement agency within the criminal justice system.  The CPA also furnishes a broad view of the entire criminal justice system and the true operations of that system within our society and community.  The program stresses the strong partnership that must exist between the criminal justice system and the community, if we are to be effective in our efforts to reduce criminal incidents within our respective communities.

Topics of instruction include:

  • Structure of the Irondequoit Police Department               
  • Police Training and Recruitment
  • Judicial System, Town Court
  • Juvenile Procedures
  • Rights of the Accused
  • Vehicle and Traffic Law (DWI)
  • Crime Scene Investigation
  • Theory of Defense
  • Drug Enforcement
  • Community Policing and Prevention Efforts
  • 9-1-1 System
  • Emergency Response Team
