Master Plan Steering Committee
A master plan is an important tool that communities use to establish a framework for making decisions about their future. It is the broadest and most comprehensive policy document for a community.
It guides a community’s long-term development with specific goals, objectives, and strategies.
All towns in New York State are obliged to have an up-to-date plan as the legal foundation for any zoning and land use regulations.
Irondequoit’s master plan was last updated in 1985. It no longer responds adequately to the community's needs. In May 2007, the town Supervisor asked for qualified volunteers to staff a Master Plan Steering Committee.
The Committee helped Town staff prepare a Request for Proposals for consulting services to update the 1985 master plan. The RFP can be viewed by clicking here. The Master Plan Steering Committee also helped the Town Board select a consultant, and will help provide community input into what will be a very public process of developing an updated plan.
