Karlan Drive Decision On September 11, 2006, the Irondequoit Zoning Board of Appeals approved a use variance for Generations Child Care, Inc. to operate a 119-client child/elder care facility in a vacant school building at 36 Karlan Drive. On November 27, 2006, the Irondequoit Planning Board approved the site plan for proposed facility, but reduced the maximum number of clients from 119 to 60. Generations Child Care, Inc. challenged the Planning Board’s decision in court. On February 2, 2007, State Supreme Court Justice Thomas A. Stander ruled that the Planning Board did not have the authority to change the variance previously granted by the Zoning Board. Generations is now entitled to obtain a permit and operate a child/elder care facility at 36 Karlan Drive.
