Recent Department Awards JULY 2008 -- The Irondequoit Police Department was awarded the 2007 Community Traffic Safety Gold Award by the AAA. This honor was bestowed because IPD provided identifiable safety benefits to a significant segment of the community which was not standard enforcement, maintenance or emergency medical care. Several IPD programs were specifically noted by the AAA:
- Caution Kids Campaign: this campaign is utilized to monitor school bus stops for traffic compliance with children boarding and departing school buses
Bicycle Safety: IPD Community Service Unit holds a annual bike rodeo where a bicycle safety course is set up so that participants can practice safety rules. In addition stations are set up to check bicycle safety, and to make sure the participants helmet fits properly.
- Traffic checkpoints: established to monitor vehicles specific to seatbelt use by driver and passenger.
