$181,712 TO BE RETURNED TO THE TOWN OF IRONDEQUOIT AS A RESULT OF AUDIT OF STREET LIGHTING ACCOUNTS

Supervisor Dave Seeley announced that the Town of Irondequoit recently received refund checks from Rochester Gas & Electric (RG&E) amounting to $181,712 for past billing errors and overcharges of street lighting equipment. These overpayments were discovered by an audit conducted of bills dating back to 2013.

Last year, the Town contracted with Buffalo-based Troy & Banks, which conducted an extensive analysis of the utility bills that the Town of Irondequoit is assessed on the thousands of street lights throughout the Town of Irondequoit. The audit was also able to verify savings of approximately $16,704 annually that will result from correcting the errors identified in the audit.

“Every tax dollar we spend at Town Hall must be done with accountability. I applaud the Town Board for authorizing this audit, the findings from which far exceeded our original expectations,” said Supervisor Seeley. “This refund will certainly be reinvested in our community. We maintain a solid relationship with RG&E, and I applaud them for recognizing and accepting these billing errors, and for providing a prompt refund.”
